Supporting the Band
Supporting the band means making sure the students of the band have the things needed to practice, perform, and grow. Boosters organize support efforts such as the First Aid tent & refreshments for Summer Band Camp as well as social events such as the Dance & Family Dinner / Preview night which celebrate our student's two weeks of hard work. Boosters organize Chaperones for student supervision on away games & competitions, coordinate volunteers for a wide range of functions and activities including Pit Crew, Concessions, Ticket Takers, Greeters/Ushers, and more. We use various fundraising activities including Visitor-side concession sales at all home football games and an annual fruit sale to fund band activities and reduce the cost of the band program for the participating students.
Supporting the Band also means supporting parents & guardians of band students. We work to help the Band Directors get information out to all parents & guardians in a rapid manner with the goal of insuring that the important items like calendars, itineraries, and the like aren't abandoned in a music folder or backpack. Contact information for officers and committee chairs is available on this website, allowing any parent or guardian to reach out with questions they may have. As well, we regularly email announcements so that those on the Band Boosters distribution list are kept informed.
Why Boosters Are Needed
In an ideal world, band activities would be fully funded by an overflowing school budget. Unfortunately, that is not the reality of educational funding today.
In a typical season, the budget for the Marching Band alone exceeds $125,000 with Guard, Indoor Percussion, and Orchestra programs adding to that total. With a budget of $750.00 from Knox County Schools, the remaining gap is funded by student fees and funds raised by the Band Boosters.
Example of Marching Band Program Funding (does not include Guard, Indoor Percussion, Jazz Band, and Orchestra programs):
Marching Band Program Cost (example) $125,000
Knox County Schools Budget $750
Student Fees $58,080
Funding Gap $66,170
The more we do for the students in the program, the more funding is needed.
We also work to coordinate activities on request of the Directors, freeing time for greater focus on student-facing functions.
Our commitment to openness and transparency:
-Membership is open to all parents and guardians of students in the Farragut High School band program.
-All roles in the Band Boosters are filled by volunteers.
-No officer, chairperson, or volunteer is compensated for their time by any method.
-100% of all donations received and funds raised go directly to fund band programs and events.
-Financial reports are provided by the Treasurer at each meeting and all details are available upon request.
